U. S. Steel Welcomes Lowell High School Students for Tour of Gary Works

Students from Lowell High School in nearby Lowell, IN, had the opportunity to tour U. S. Steel’s Gary Works on April 14, 2022, and gain insight on careers in the steel industry.

Jason Rodriguez (Gary Works Training Manager) led students to various plant locations including the #2 Caster, the Machine Shop, and the Hot Strip Mill (which was the students’ favorite stop).

Lowell students also toured the plant’s training facility and the mechanical labs to get a deeper understanding of how the plant’s learner program works.

At the end of the tour, the students got a chance to talk with Marsha Thatcher from the plant’s Human Resources team, who spoke about U. S. Steel’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, as well as the benefits available to employees.

This tour was the second time this school year U. S. Steel employees met with Lowell High School’s vocational program students.  The first meeting took place in the fall when Gary Works employees visited the school to give a careers presentation.
