With a legacy dating back to the start of Gary Works in 1906, U. S. Steel remains a cornerstone of the state’s economy and is steadfast in our commitment to local quality of life.

A new FY2024 economic impact study completed in Indiana highlights the many ways in which we contribute to the state:

  • U. S. Steel generated $1.8 billion in total economic impact, with $1.2 billion in direct value to Indiana’s economy
  • U. S. Steel’s operations generated $67.4 million in FY2024 in state and local taxes for public services and infrastructure. Statewide, U. S. Steel supports 8,402 total jobs including 4,341 employees at our Indiana facilities—providing high-wage, family-sustaining jobs
  • The company partnered with 401 Indiana-based suppliers, keeping investment and opportunity local
  • U. S. Steel employees volunteered 61,000 hours valued at $1.9 million, plus $623,000 in direct employee giving
  • The company contributed $2.7 million to Indiana communities through corporate giving, volunteerism, and donations

As we build for the next century, our partnership with Nippon Steel secures long-term capital investment in Indiana and is expected to accelerate innovation, preserve jobs, and enhance sustainability across U. S. Steel’s operations.

Significant economic growth, incredible community engagement, and proven company strategy mean Indiana is well positioned as a global hub for advanced steelmaking.
