Celebrating Service: Meet Our 2024 United by Service Honorees

Today, U. S. Steel honored 15 employees in the United States and Slovakia for exemplary service to their local communities as part of our annual United by Service Volunteer of the Year Awards ceremony.

Congratulations to Jeremiah North, a Utility Technician at the Cold Mill Wastewater Treatment Plant at Great Lakes Works, was chosen as the United by Service 2024 “Volunteer of the Year!” To thank Jeremiah for his service, U. S. Steel is making a $15,000 contribution to his charity of choice – the Flat Rock (MI) Rotary Club, where he currently serves as President.

Hear more from and about Jeremiah, including interviews with members of his local community who shared what he means to them (spoiler: he’s a legend!).

Also, 14 additional employees were honored as Service Champions for the support they provided to a variety of organizations in 2024. Each Service Champion earned their charity of choice a $5,000 donation.

Congratulations to our 2024 Service Champions! Swipe the carousel above to learn more about each person, their designated charity, and the kinds of work they did in 2024 to make our communities stronger, better places for everyone who lives there … including our furry friends!

Since launching in 2021, our United by Service initiative has celebrated the generosity, compassion, and impact of our employees around the world. Inspired by the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this program encourages team members to find causes they care about and make a difference through action.

United by Service stands as proof that when you have the best teams and the best people, you can create the best communities. Congratulations to this year’s Volunteer of the Year award program honorees, all of whom personify what United by Service is truly about

And to every employee volunteer who shows up early to organize, stays late to clean, trades in a weekend (especially in all weather conditions) to get a much-needed job done – to each kind heart that gives of themselves year-round to make our communities better for all who live, play, learn, and work there, you are a U. S. Steel champion, and we salute you. Our United by Service Volunteer of the Year awards recognize the most distinguished among you, but to every volunteer and every nominee, while we cannot call you all out by name, we see the impact you make, and we thank you for it.
