A Healthy Partnership: U. S. Steel Supports Health Network with $75K Donation

Earlier this month, U. S. Steel had the opportunity to sponsor the Methodist Hospitals Foundation’s Annual Gala. It only took a moment for the Gary Works team, though the company’s Community Engagement Program (CEC) to step up as the top contributor with a $75,000 donation to support healthcare access for the communities where our employees live and work.

Held at a local venue just a mile from our Gary Works plant in Indiana, the gala raised critical funds for the hospital’s Vision Fund—a program focused on minimizing health disparities in underserved communities. The U. S. Steel donation will help the local hospitals provide essential medical services to individuals and families who might not otherwise be able to afford care—reinforcing our values of safety, community, and support.

David Reaume, Gary Works Plant Manager Finishing Operations, accepted the sponsorship award on behalf of U. S. Steel and delivered brief remarks during the evening program. We were not only the event’s largest sponsor, but also the only company invited to speak – a recognition of our close ties with the Foundation and our shared commitment to community wellness.

Methodist Hospital is an important resource for the community and our employees. With its main campus just minutes away, the hospital is there to provide support to the Gary Works on-site medical team should they need it. Its secondary campus in Merrillville is centrally located for many Gary Works employees and their families, making this partnership even more personal.

In addition to David, several additional U. S. Steel team members attended the gala to show their support, including Clara Wineinger, GM Office Executive Assistant; Jeremy Wineinger, IT Networking Administrator; Mandy Lucious, S&OP Business Planner, Alexandria Jackson, Manager Medical Services; and Michael Schwentor, Operational Excellence Director. Their presence underscored the strong connection between our workplace and the healthcare providers who serve our region.
