Supporting our employee veterans, those actively serving in the National Guard and Reserves, and the veterans of our surrounding communities is the mission of U. S. Steel's SERVE (Supporting and Enhancing Relationships of Veteran Employees) employee resource group (ERG).
And recently, the community rallied to help our Northwest Indiana chapter help veterans by holding a cornhole tournament!
30 teams—60 individuals—participated, and all proceeds benefited local veterans!
Special thanks to SERVE ERG team members Brian Robinson, Lendof Adonys, Dan Perez, Nelson Guzman, Chris Bernard and Wesley Davis who made the event run flawlessly. They are members of our Northwest Indiana SERVE chapters representing U. S. Steel's Gary Works and Midwest Plant.
With extra support from community sponsors – Lake Station Veterans of Foreign Wars (venue), South of the River Baggers (logistics and materials for an organized tournament), Karma Cigar Bar (a $300 basket and showed up for support, as well as four cigars—Victory Sticks—to the winning team), and Operation Charlie Bravo (a raffle basket and booth up set-up) – everyone had a great day!
Be on the lookout for more opportunities from SERVE and have fun while supporting local veterans.
